BEIRUT (IQNA) – The deputy secretary general of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement said the Zionist regime was forced to accept a ceasefire in Gaza after its failure in the attacks on the enclave.

Hezbollah deputy chief Sheikh Naim Qassem

Sheikh Naim Qassem noted that Israel failed to secure the release of even one captive in its ground offensive on Gaza.

He also said that a Hamas official has made it clear that none of the Palestinian resistance movement’s underground infrastructures in the Gaza Strip has been damaged in the Israeli attacks that began on October 7.

He said the Palestinians’ resistance against the occupation regime is the confrontation between the front of the truth and that of falsehood.

It is a cultural, social, ethical and political struggle and one for independence, he said, adding that the Zionist regime is a tumorous cancer that is dangerous for all.

Sheikh Qassem also described the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation that Hamas launched against Israel on October 7 as a major operation and a legitimate response to Israeli crimes, saying it is a historical achievement that will remain in the hearts of Palestinians.

As for the situation in Southern Lebanon, he said Hezbollah decided to support Gaza and confront the Zionist regime and has offered tens of martyrs on this path in recent weeks.

The secretary general of Iraq’s Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, Sheikh Qais Al-Khazali also highlighted the Israeli regime’s failure to achieve its objectives in the war on Gaza, noting that Tel Aviv could not kill even one of top commanders and leaders of the Hamas resistance movement.

The truce in Gaza came into effect on Friday.

Israel launched the war on Gaza on October 7, after Hamas carried out the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Flood in response to Israel’s decades-long campaign of violence and oppression against Palestinians. Israel also imposed a total blockade on Gaza, cutting off water, food, and electricity to the coastal strip, which faces a humanitarian crisis.

The Government Media Office in Gaza said on Thursday that at least 14,854 Palestinians, including more than 6,150 children and 4,000 women, have been killed and over 36,000 others injured in the Israeli strikes.

The report also said that 207 health workers and 65 journalists were among the dead, and that 7,000 Palestinians were still missing. The report added that 60 percent of homes in Gaza have either been destroyed or damaged by the aggression.
