TEHRAN (IQNA) – After someone dies, there will be responsibilities that should be fulfilled by the relatives of the deceased, and if he or she has no relatives, other believers should shoulder the responsibilities.

Funeral of a deceased person

One of those responsibilities is performing Ghusl Janazah, shrouding and burying the deceased person.

Imam Reza (AS) said the reason why Ghusl Janazah should be performed for the diseased is both in order to cleanse them of impurities and because meeting the angels and spirits without Taharah (purity) would not be appropriate.

In another Hadith, Imam Reza (AS) said shrouding the diseased is in order that when meeting God, the person should have a certain purity and cleanliness.

According to Hadiths, it is recommended that the shroud should be from the same cloth worn by the person in Hajj or during other acts of worship such as congregational and Friday prayers.

It is also recommended that the person should prepare the shroud himself and sometimes look at it to remember death and avoid neglectfulness.

Imam Sadiq (AS) said anyone who has his shroud at home will not be considered to be among the neglectful ones and any time he or she takes a look at it, he would be rewarded.

As for the reason of burying the deceased, Imam Reza (AS) said if a deceased person is not buried, the body will decompose, which would make the enemies happy and the friends offended.
