Germany Expresses Concern Over Rising Anti-Muslim Racism Amid Gaza War
Government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit, during a press conference in Berlin, firmly denounced any attacks on Muslims, emphasizing that such acts, whether motivated by religious or other reasons, are completely unacceptable.
"The nearly 5 million Muslims in Germany have every right to be protected," Hebestreit said, Anadolu Agency reported on Monday.
The Alliance Against Islamophobia and Anti-Muslim Hate (CLAIM), based in Berlin, issued a warning last week regarding the surge in anti-Muslim racism amidst the escalating Israel-Palestine conflict in the Gaza Strip.
Rima Hanano, the head of this non-governmental organization, expressed deep concern about the intensification of anti-Muslim racism in Germany, emphasizing the need to take this matter seriously.
"We must not allow inhumane positions to be further normalized and thereby jeopardize social cohesion. All people must be protected from racist, antisemitic, and other inhumane violence and threats," Hanano added.
CLAIM has documented 53 cases of anti-Muslim threats, violence, and discrimination in the past two-and-a-half weeks, including 10 attacks on mosques.

It is presumed that a significant number of unreported anti-Muslim incidents have yet to be documented, including incidents of anti-Muslim hate speech on social media platforms.
CLAIM is calling for comprehensive measures to combat anti-Muslim racism and ensure the protection of those affected. The organization emphasized the urgency of taking action against anti-Muslim racism, antisemitism, and other forms of misanthropic ideologies for the sake of democracy and societal cohesion.
In light of these developments, Germany is being urged to address and combat the rising issue of anti-Muslim racism and take steps to ensure the safety and well-being of its Muslim population.
