TEHRAN (IQNA) – It is a common question for people to ask how they can get more of the divine blessings.

Verse 7 of Surah Ibrahim

The answer to this question is gratefulness. Being grateful to God for the blessings He has granted us has many positive effects in people’s life and it their spiritual and mental state.

The Holy Quran underlines the importance of being grateful and its effects in life.

According to Verse 7 of Surah Ibrahim, being grateful leads to more blessings: “If you are grateful, I would certainly give to you more.”

So gratefulness has many positive effects in different aspects of life, including the following:

1- Man’s relationship with God

One who thanks God for His blessings is actually saying he deserve more blessings and God adds to the blessings that he receives. That is why Imam Ali (AS) says it is with gratefulness that blessings continue.

2- Man’s relationship with others

Just as there has been emphasis on being grateful to God, being thankful to be people for their favors and help has also been underlined. If one considers himself obliged to others, it leads to more rapport and empathy in society and such a society can withstand every event and threat.

According to a Hadith from Imam Reza (AS), one who is not grateful to other people is not grateful to God, the Almighty, either.

The Quran also says that being grateful is beneficial for the person himself: “Those who give thanks to God do so for their own good. Those who are ungrateful should know that God is Self-sufficient and Praiseworthy.” (Verse 12 of Surah Luqman)

The two attributes of Ghani and Hamid (Self-sufficient and Praiseworthy) in this verse are an emphasis the fact that God does not need our thankfulness but it is good for us to receive more of His blessings.
