Police Launch Investigation as Mosque Receives Suspicious Envelope

STOCKHOLM (IQNA) – Police in Gothenburg, Sweden, are investigating a case of suspected hate crime after a mosque received an envelope containing white powder on Friday.

The Gothenburg Islamic Culture Association, which runs the mosque in Hisingen, reported the incident to the police after the Friday prayer.

The president of the association, Faraj Semmo, said he opened the envelope and got the powder on his hands. He told SVT that he did not want to alarm the worshippers and waited until they left to call the police.

The police said they have seized the envelope and the powder for analysis.

The incident comes as the Nordic country has seen a growing wave of Islamophobia in the past few weeks as extremist elements have been waging hateful attacks against Islam and the Holy Quran despite global condemnation.
