TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman urged the Swedish government to take necessary measures to stop further events that include the desecration of the Holy Quran.

Speaking in his weekly press conference on Monday, Nasser Kan’ani responded to a question by IQNA about the recent Quran desecration in the Swedish capital of Stockholm in which a man burnt pages from the Holy Quran after he was given a permit by the country’s police.

“The Swedish government has heard the strong voice of the Muslim world,” he said, referring to the worldwide condemnation of the sacrilege.

“Indeed, insulting Islamic sanctities is an offense to all people who follow religious values and divine faiths, not just to the beliefs of the Islamic Ummah. Such an act is unlawful and hurts the feelings and values of all Muslims across the globe,” added the spokesman.

“The Swedish government's apology is not enough, and they need to make amends and prevent such disrespectful and bold acts from happening again.

All the believers in the world, maintained Kan’ani, “expect this from the Swedish government, and we also expect them to take some preventive measures seriously.”
