TEHRAN (IQNA) – There is a verse in Surah At-Tawbah which asks Muslims why they love some more than Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The Holy Prophet is the source of guidance and leadership and hence, should be the dearest in believers’ hearts.

This is according to Hani Chitchian, a member of the Quran and Etrat School of the University of Tehran, speaking in the 26th session in a series on Surah At-Tawbah. Following are excerpts from his remarks in the session:

We are going to talk about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his mission and role in leading society. There are two types of verses about him; the first group talks about himself and the second group are those which address the Prophet.

The first group reminds the status of the Holy Prophet to all of us and the second group of verses is those that we should know and put as the basis of our deeds.

Verse 1 of Surah At-Tawbah reads: “An acquittal from Allah and His Messenger to the idolaters with whom you have made agreements.” One person is in charge of declaring the abrogation; Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

This has also been mentioned in verse 3 of the Surah: “A proclamation from Allah and His Messenger, to the people on the day of the Grand Pilgrimage; 'Allah rejects, and His Messenger (rejects) the idolaters. So if you repent, that will be better for you; but if you turn your backs, know that you cannot frustrate Allah. And give glad tidings to the unbelievers of a painful punishment.”

Verse 7 of the Surah reads: “How can the idolaters have any treaty with Allah and His Messenger, except those with whom you have made treaties by the Sacred Mosque? So long as they are straight with you, so be straight with them. Allah loves the righteous.”

The next related part is verse 13 which reads: “Will you not fight against those who have broken their oaths and conspired to expel the Messenger? They were the first to attack you. Do you fear them? Surely, Allah has better rights that you fear Him, if you are believers.”

The verse urges believers to not act lazily in confronting enmities.

Next comes verse 16 which reads: “Did you suppose that you would be left before Allah has known those of you who fought and did not take a confidant other than Allah, His Messenger, and the believers? Allah is Aware of what you do.”

The discussion here is that the love for the Holy Prophet should be in heart of all Muslims.
