TEHRAN (IQNA) – Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili visited the Jumah Mosque in the capital Tbilisi to congratulate Muslims on Eid al-Adha.

During the visit, Garibashvili stressed that all faiths are respected in Georgia, aa.com.tr website reported.

He added that Georgia is a country where followers of different religions live together peacefully and all contribute to the country’s development.

The premier talked to Muslim clerics, people and representatives of a number of embassies, including those of Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan, at the mosque.  

Eid al-Adha is one of the most important Islamic festivals held after the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

Also known as the sacrifice feast, it is celebrated to honor the dedication and willingness of Prophet Abraham (AS) to sacrifice his son as an act of submission on God’s command.

Georgia is a country located in the Caucasus, at the intersection of Eastern Europe and Western Asia.

It has a population of around 4 million, some 11 percent of whom are Muslims, mostly Shia Muslims.
