TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran has offered a plan for the resolution of the Palestinian issue years ago based on elections, a senior Iranian cleric said.

Iran believes that “Each Palestinian One Vote” will settle the issue of the Occupied Lands”, Ayatollah Seyed Ahmad Khatami said while addressing Friday prayers worshipers in Tehran.

He referred to the 65 years of occupation of Palestine by the Zionist regime and said the occupiers have a long and dark list of atrocities and crimes, ranging from the massacres of Sabra and Shatila to the 50-day aggression on Gaza to the killing of children and demolition of mosques, hospitals and schools.

“However, this regime is getting closer to its annihilation day after day,” he stressed.

Ayatollah Khatami’s comments came as millions of Iranians, along with Muslims around the world, marked the International Quds Day on Friday.

The event's overarching theme is support for the Palestinians and fierce denunciation of the Zionist regime.

It is seen as an opportunity for freedom-seeking people across the world, regardless of faith, to voice their support for the cause of Palestine and vent their anger against the Apartheid regime of Israel, which has occupied Palestinian territories since 1967.

The day is also seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini (RA), who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.
