TEHRAN (IQNA) – An event was held in Saint Petersburg to commemorate prominent Russian Islamologist Professor Stanislav Prozorov.

The ceremony was held at the Institute of the Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences with the participation of guests both physically and virtually.

Staged on the occasion of the 85th birthday of the professor, the event commemorated Prozorov for decades of his efforts in Islamic and Shia studies.

The event was attended by guests including Director of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts Irina Fedorovna Popova, Director of Hermitage Museum Mikhail Piotrovsky, and President of Ibn Sina Foundation Hamid Hadavi.

“Having provided a brilliant translation of Shi’a sects by al-Hasan al-Nawbakhti, he ushered in a new era in the history of modern Islamic knowledge,” Ibn Sina Foundation said in a statement.

Prozorov has been hailed as one of the founders of Ibn Sina Foundation back in 2007.

He has provided mentorship to numerous Orientalists who preserve and enhance his invaluable contribution to Arabic studies while also publishing a host of books and articles.
