TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 4th edition of the Imam Hussein (AS) international conference wrapped up in Iraq’s Karbala as scholars and researchers discussed social issues and solutions that the Holy Quran offers for them.

Titled “Holy Quran and Contemporary Society’s Issues”, this year’s conference was organized by the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) Holy Shrine and Al-Zahra University and was held on May 10 and 11 in Karbala.

Researchers pointed to some of the problems in today’s society including problems of divorce, illegal relations, violation of women’s rights because of traditions, violation of laws that govern society, Takfir, and challenges faced by Muslim communities, especially in the west.

Scholars stressed the need to drive lessons from the Quran and the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and Ahl al-Bayt (SA) as a solution to these problems.

They also pointed to the necessity of continuing such a conference that can help solve contemporary issues in society.

According to Safa al-Silavi, an official with the Astan of Imam Hussein (AS), participants in the conference touched upon the effect of relying on western theories in the decline of society, calling for using Quranic concepts for guiding the community on the right path.
