TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Lebanese Hezbollah resistance movement denounced a recent controversial gathering held in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan region to push for normalization with the Zionist regime of Israel.

The gathering, which was held by a US think tank in Erbil, the capital of the Iraqi Kurdistan region, has drawn widespread condemnation.

In a statement, Hezbollah described it as an attempt to spread the culture of dialogue with the enemy, which was nipped in the bud, Al-Manar reported.

The resistance group lauded the Iraqis’ stances against any form of normalization with the Zionist regime and hailed judicial measures taken against those attending the conference.

Hezbollah also appreciated the strong stance of the Iraqi nation in support of the Palestinian people and the cause of Palestine.

On Friday, scores of men and women attended the conference in a hotel in Erbil, during which some of them reportedly demanded that Baghdad join the so-called Abraham Accords and normalize relations with Israel.

The Abraham Accords were signed at the White House in September 2020 between Israel, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates. Morocco and Sudan later signed normalization agreements with the Israeli regime as well.

Palestinians have denounced the normalization deals, describing them as a “stab in the back”.

Iraqi media reported on Sunday that the Arab country’s Supreme Judicial Council had issued arrest warrants against some participants.
