Back in September, a series of Quranic calligraphy works by Iranian artist Tandis Taqavi was given to the Vatican Ambassador to the Philippines Gabriel Cacci to be delivered to the leader of the worldwide Catholic Church, Pope Francis.

The 8 works, featuring Surah Maryam (Mary) of the Holy Quran, were calligraphed by Taqavi and gilded by another Iranian artist Rafaat Mousavi.

The Vatican, in a letter signed by Edgar Pena Parra, thanked Ms Taghavi for the gift.

“His Holiness Pope Francis was pleased to receive your recent letter and he has asked me to respond on his behalf. He appreciates the sentiments which prompted you to write and to offer him the gift of your artwork, which will be placed in one of the offices of the Holy See,” the letter reads.

“His Holiness assures you of his prayers and his appreciation for your efforts in promoting peace and solidarity among people of faith and good will, and he gladly sends his blessing.”

The letter was given to Ms Taghavi in a ceremony at the Vatican’s embassy in Manila.
