TEHRAN (IQNA) – Teenage Qari and Quran memorizer Ali Feizi will leave Tehran for Dubai on Monday to represent Iran in the 21st edition of the Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA).

His father, Toraj Feizi, who will accompany him to the UAE, told IQNA that Ali has been practicing his Quranic skills, reviewing three Juzes (parts) of the Quran every day for an optimal performance in the contest.

He said his 12-year-old son will face a tough competition in Dubai among representatives of 100 countries.

He noted that while the maximum age for contenders was 20 until last year, the age limit this year has been raised to 25 and that makes it a bit more difficult for Ali who is vying for the top prize.

Mr. Feizi said he has downloaded the recitations of top winners in previous editions of the contest so that Ali can practice his skills based on what the event’s panel of judges consider important.

He went on to thank Quran masters Mohammad Reza Poormoin, Davoud Jafari, Sharifian, and others who have helped Ali in his efforts to prepare for the competition.

According to the organizers, for the first time ever, 100 full Quran memorizers from across the world are to compete in the global Quran competition held annually in Dubai.

The DIHQA organizing committee had earlier invited over 120 Islamic countries and foreign Islamic communities in Europe, America, Latin America, Africa, and Asia to participate in the Award this year, they said.

"Aspirant participants need to perfectly memorize and eloquently recite the holy Quran in full, and should not be over 25 years old at the time of the contest which sees stiff competition from competent memorizers all over the globe.”
